HB 1053, The Healthcare Freedom Act, sponsored by David Meeks, failed in the House Public Health Committee on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. The full title of HB1053 is “An Act to Ensure Freedom of Choice in Health Care for All Arkansans; and to Prevent Involuntary Enrollments in Health Care Insurance Programs.” The main focus of this bill is to stop the individual mandate that Arkansans be forced to purchase health insurance.
We ask that you make calls to your state representative and request his/her support. Keep working on this bill and don’t let it drop. Hold them accountable for their vote. If your representative is on that committee and voted against this bill, please ask the reason. Make them explain to you, as a constituent. Here is a list of the committee votes last Tuesday:
