The state of Alaska needs our help in contacting their legislators to vote “NO” on a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con).
Please forward this to your family and friends and please make the calls!
HJR38: A resolution requesting the United States Congress to call a Constitutional
Convention to propose an amendment to the Constitution of the United States requiring approval of a majority of state legislatures
to increase the federal debt limit.
(Namely, a Con-Con).
Click here for the Alaska Legislature, click on the track bills hyperlink. Search HJR38 (click Display) and it will bring up the information and status.
HJR38 is being sponsored by Representative Keller and was referred to the State Affairs Committee on February 20, 2012.
There is no language provided in Article V to limit the power of a Constitutional Convention. Article V states, “Congress…on the application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments…”.
Please make your calls first thing Tuesday morning. You may also fax these committee members. Let them know how dangerous a Con-Con really is. You can find their contact information by clicking on their names here (for State Affairs Committee). You can also call Representative Keller.
MESSAGE: Vote NO on HJR38. Do not put our Constitution at risk by asking Congress to “call a Convention for the purpose of proposing amendments.” Article V of the Constitution does not provide any way to limit an “amendments convention” or its power. How can you expect the government to pay any attention to an amendment when they’re trampling the whole Constitution right now? Please don’t risk our Constitution.
