Hello Calif. State Conservative Leaders,
As you may know Senate Bill 1 (co-authored by Steinberg /DeSaulnier) is one of the most threatening pieces of legislation that our cities and townships could see in California. From the financing of our schools to the rights of private property ownership – little remains unaffected with implementation of this Bill. SB1 threatens every the private property rights of all California land holders by allowing private property to be “taken” without the traditional finding of blight. Blight can now be loosely defined as “inefficient land use patterns”.
The Bill passed in both the Senate and Assembly this year, but was temporarily withdrawn until January for fear that it would be vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown. At this time, negotiations to sweeten the Bill for the Governor’s signature are in progress. We cannot allow this Bill to go unchallenged when it is reintroduced. My patriot friend , Charlie Brown and I are forming a coalition of Bay Area and ultimately statewide county leaders to oppose SB 1.
If you decide to join us we will provide you with detailed information on the Bill, flyers with talking points and a declaration to distribute and obtain signatures in opposition to the Bill. The Declaration would then be presented to Governor Brown and representatives of the CA legislature in the next session evidencing a statewide groundswell of opposition. We urge you to participate in this effort and, to that end we have prepared a Senate Bill 1 primer for your review (see attached).
The primer provides complete details and background of SB 1so you can be fully briefed and ready to employ whatever strategies you think most effective to educate the citizens of your community and, ultimately, obtain signatures on the Declaration. Charlie and I stand ready to help you in your desired approach to both aspects of this endeavor.
The primer is attached and is a quick read compared to reading the Bill itself, albeit that is always encouraged. The Declaration will follow upon your decision to be a willing participant in the statewide coalition opposing this Bill. The power that SB 1 invests in unelected authorities is extremely costly to any past achievements to retain local control of our communities and once incorporated into law dooms any future attempts for representative government in California. Please give this matter serious attention and let Charlie and me know if you are with us in this endeavor. Thank you for your continued efforts in the many activities you have undertaken to maintain our civil liberties. Cordially,
