Please Oppose SB207-SB212
sponsored by Senator Kim Hammer
of Benton, Arkansas.
.
Why is Senator Hammer working to end citizens petitions in Arkansas and make the initiative and referendum process HARDER? — These freedom-robbing bills all deal with the Arkansas initiative/referendum process, another slap-in-the-face to the voters.

Here is the Senate State Agencies agenda.
.
See these six bad bills that require our attention immediately because these bills do NOT represent the voter!
As always, we need to read the ENTIRE bill and not rely on what the ballot title sounds like the bill will do.
SB207 TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING INITIATIVE AND REFERENDUM PETITIONS; TO REQUIRE A CANVASSER TO DISCLOSE THAT PETITION FRAUD IS A CLASS A MISDEMEANOR; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
SB208 TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING INITIATIVE AND REFERENDUM PETITIONS; TO VIEW A CANVASSER TO REQUEST PHOTO IDENTIFICATION BEFORE OBTAINING A SIGNATURE; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
SB209 TO DISQUALIFY SIGNATURES OBTAINED BY A CANVASSER UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
SB210 TO REQUIRE THE SIGNER TO READ THE BALLOT TITLE OF THE PETITION IN THE PRESENCE OF A CANVASSER; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
SB211 TO AMEND THE LAW CONCERNING INITIATIVE PETITIONS AND REFERENDUM PETITIONS; TO REQUIRE A CANVASSER TO SUBMIT AN AFFIDAVIT BEFORE SIGNATURES CAN BE COUNTED; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
SB212 TO CREATE THE DOCUMENT VALIDITY DIVISION; AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.
Take note: Dreadfully, SB212 creates an internal entity to our Secretary of State that carries the power of the subpoena and more!
It’s imperative that we, the people, are not hampered, suppressed, or strangled regarding the initiative or referendum process in any way, shape, or form. We always need to have an avenue open to us to have a redress of grievances, but it sure looks like they want to block it in every way they can.
Please call, email, or text the Senate State Agencies Committee members immediately and tell them you want them to “Vote NO” on these six bad bills!

States vary in their procedures for qualifying citizen-initiated amendments for the ballot.
We should know that states are losing their power to reserve to themselves the right to propose legislative measures, laws, and amendments. Our rights are incrementally eroded!
Gathering the required amount of the signature-collection is hard enough, let alone burdening everyone involved with MORE requirements that canvassers must do in this intense process. In every legislative session, our initiative gathering process gets targeted, but this many bad bills are out-of-control and ridiculous. Every one of them must be stopped!
We must insist that we keep this process unencumbered for the sake of the people!
The legislative power of the people of Arkansas is vested in a General Assembly, which consists of the Senate and House of Representatives, but thank goodness, the people can reserve to themselves the power to propose legislative measures, laws, and amendments to the State Constitution, and we can enact or reject the same at the polls independent of the General Assembly… unless our rights are chipped away!
Side note: We know that a legislative session is hard on all of us to bear because of bills constantly popping up unexpectedly, but without YOU taking action, we will be buried under freedom-robbing laws and regulations.
Stay vigilant, dear readers!
