We’re so grateful!

We are seeing passionate legislative efforts across the country reflect a broader national trend which cry out for over-the-counter (OTC) access to this Nobel Prize-Winning Medication, Ivermectin.

Arkansas Legislation: SB189 aims to permit the over-the-counter (OTC) sale of Ivermectin for human use without a prescription or consultation with a healthcare professional.

Ivermectin was discovered in the 1970s by Dr. Satoshi Ōmura and Dr. William C. Campbell, and the Nobel Prize was awarded to both Ōmura and Campbell in 2015.

Ivermectin (IVM):

  • is an antiparasitic drug, but it has a wide range of biological applications.

  • was approved by the US FDA in 2015 and made available as a generic medicine.

  • was registered for human use in 1987.

Here’s a Review from PubMed:  Ivermectin: 25 years and still going strong.
The Abstract:

Ivermectin is a drug that many people will never have heard of. Yet thousands of villagers of all ages in communities scattered throughout the remotest parts of Africa and Latin America know its name, and some experts regard it as one of the greatest health interventions of the past 50 years. Ivermectin was brought to the commercial market place for multi-purpose use in animal health in 1981. Six years later it was registered for human use. This remarkable compound has improved the lives and productivity of billions of humans, livestock and pets around the globe, and promises to help consign to the history books two devastating and disfiguring diseases that have plagued people throughout the tropics for generations–while new uses for it are continually being found.
[Highlight and bold emphasis, Secure Arkansas]

Mass treatment programs: Organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and Merck’s Mectizan Donation Program have distributed billions of doses to fight neglected tropical diseases in Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

Ivermectin is a safe and effective life-saving medication and has been used for decades.

  • It’s best-known for treating parasite infections… BUT since Ivermectin is FDA-approved for parasitic infections, therefore it has a potential for repurposing.

Some of the FDA-Approved uses of Ivermectin for humans:

  • Parasitic infections

    • Onchocerciasis (River Blindness)

    • Strongyloidiasis (a type of roundworm infection)

  • Certain skin conditions

    • Scabies (off-label use but widely prescribed)

    • Rosacea (as a topical cream, brand name Soolantra)

Veterinary Use (FDA-Approved for Animals)

  • Used to prevent and treat heartworm and various parasites in livestock and pets.

Thank goodness, the Ivermectin bill in Arkansas passed the Senate seamlessly!
Now on to the House to vote for access to this OTC wonder drug medicine.

The Senate votes were listed as 31-4:
