The ordinance to opt-out of the electric & water “Remote/Smart Meter” program was passed by your city council in Feb. 2012. There Is NO DEADLINE to opt-out and keep your current equipment! You may still opt-out! How do you go about opting out? The ratepayer listed on the account must go to the LUS fiber office on the corner of Pinhook and Kaliste Saloom from 8 to 5, M-F, ask for the person that handles opt-outs and sign an agreement. Then place a sign near your meter(s) that states: “Do not Install remote meter at this location -We’re Opted-out”

NOTE: if LUS has already placed the Federal remote/Smart meter on your home/ business & you would like it removed, good news… you can! Follow the procedure above but also contact LUS at (3371291-8280 & request removal asap. Remember, there is NO deadline to opt-out & if you are told “you can’t because it’s beyond the deadline” let LUS know that Ordinance #0-028-2012 has NO deadline.
