ALEC Could Be Blocking Arkansans From The Legislative Process – Part II

March 2, 2014 ALEC

Print This Article

Our previous email found here touched on how American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) could be blocking Arkansans from the legislative process.  A couple of other groups you should keep your eyes on are:
•  The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and
•  The Council of State Governments (CSG)  Read their mission statement:
“CSG champions excellence in state governments to advance the common good.”
While this may sound good, it’s very deceptive.  Sounds like redistribution of wealth.
We’ll expound more on this ultra-dangerous organization in the future.
Under the Council of State Governments (CSG), we have the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) in which Arkansas Senator Keith M. Ingram is the SLC Chair, 2013-2014.  There are members of these organizations in our own Arkansas General Assembly.  Listed below are the names of Arkansas Senate officers and Arkansas Senate Committee members.  To the right of their names in red font are the organizations with which they’re associated.

In our previous email, we talked about corruption in the Arkansas legislature, and we want to remind everyone that THREE of our Arkansas Senators (Senator Michael Lamoureaux, Senator Johnny Key, and Senator Eddie Joe Williams) were fined in December 2012 for funnelling campaign funds, and, of course, they’re ALEC politicians. This seems to be one of the reasons ex-Senator Paul Bookout (Jonesboro area) resigned.

This email has concentrated on the Senate side.  Look for additional information from Secure Arkansas about the Arkansas House members soon.  Here’s a little intro:

The Arkansas House of Representatives has ten standing committees, where House Members meet to review and discuss bills, resolutions and interim studies before Members decide whether to send the measures to the full body for consideration. The ten House committees are split evenly into A and B categories.  All House Members serve on one A Committee and one B Committee.  The Speaker of the House Representative Davy Carter, a American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) member, appoints a chairperson and vice chairperson to each standing committee. With ALEC members in control of most Committees it is no wonder that ALEC has taken over the legislative process.

House Committees

Additionally, all standing House committees have a number of subcommittees.  The Speaker of the House appoints members from the standing committee to serve as chair and vice chair of individual subcommittees.  The chair and vice chairperson from each A and B committee serve as ex-officio members on all subcommittees.
