SB359 Water Fluoridation Mandate: Pull the Bill

SB 359, an Act “To Provide For Certain Water Systems To Maintain A Level Of Fluoride To Prevent Tooth Decay; And For Other Purposes.”

SB359 is coming up in the House Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee tomorrow morning (Tuesday, March 1) 10:00 am, Room 130. It is imperative that you contact the sponsors of this bill and ask them to PULL THE BILL.

If SB359 is passed, it will affect people that don’t even live in the state of Arkansas! Should we be mandating other states?

Fort Smith sells their water to Van Buren which sells their water to Sequoyah Water District, OK, which sells its water to users in Sallisaw, OK, Garrison, OK, Liberty, OK, Rock Point, OK and Scratchout, OK (and possibly more). Fort Smith sells theirs to Cedarville, AR which sells their water to Lee Creek Water District, OK. Fort Smith sells to Water District #7 in Muldrow, OK which provides water to Gans, OK, and Roland, OK. Fort Smith sells to Aroma, OK directly for their water use.

Texarkana, AR and Texarkana, TX share the same water system but may be exempt from this mandate for now. This is according to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette dated February 25, 2011, page 6A, where Senator David Johnson discusses this issue. This could be the tip of the iceberg! How many other water districts are sending water across the state lines?

We MUST stop this mandate NOW. PLEASE contact the senators and representatives below TODAY and request that the bill be pulled.
