Con-Con Alert in Missouri!

March 13, 2012 Action Alerts

Print This Article

The following is an appeal from a patriot in Missouri to help in contacting their legislators to vote “No” on a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con).
Please forward this to your family and friends and please make the calls!

Alert! Missouri Needs You!

SCR27: This concurrent resolution calls for a constitutional convention to propose an amendment to the United States Constitution that requires a balanced federal budget, except in times of war, and prohibits increases in taxes, unless approved by two-thirds of the state legislatures.

Click here for the Missouri Legislature, click on Joint Bill Tracking. Search SCR27, then enter Action, Calendar, etc. to check the status.

SCR27 was offered by Senator Ridgeway on March 1, 2012, and referred to the Senate Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics Committee on March 5, 2012.

There is no way provided in Article V of the U.S. Constitution to limit the number of amendments which can be proposed in an “amendments convention,” even if the states, as in SCR27, try to limit it. Article V states, “Congress…on the application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments…” (that’s amendments in the plural).

Please call and email, starting now. Let these committee members know how dangerous a Con-Con really is. You can find their contact information by clicking on their names  here (for Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics Committee). You can also call Senator Ridgeway.

MESSAGE: Vote NO on SCR27. Do not put our Constitution at risk by asking Congress to “call a Convention for the purpose of proposing amendments.” Article V of the Constitution does not provide any way to limit an “amendments convention.” If you are sincere about limiting the federal debt then refuse all federal funds coming to Missouri.
