Con Con Failed in Senate! BUT Comes Up in House Wed. Morning 2/1/2017

January 30, 2017 Article V Amendment Convention, Constitutional Convention, Featured

Print This Article

Readers, here are some updates about what happened at the Arkansas Capitol today AND the other dreaded Con Con bill that comes up Wednesday Morning.

First, there was a setback for the Con Con people today!  SJR 2 (the fiendish, Constitution-risking Article V Amendments/ Con Con resolution) FAILED on the Senate floor!  BUT we need to KEEP UP THE CALLS and emails to the state senators because SJR 2 was “expunged”; this means it can be brought back up in the Senate for a vote at ANY time. (So, help us keep an eye on the daily agendas.)

THANK YOU to the Legislators who VOTED AGAINST IT, and THANK YOU to our readers for all of your calls, emails, and text messages to the senators and for your prayers that SJR 2 would FAIL.

Now, remember the menacing resolution HJR 1001?  IT’S BACK!

IMMEDIATE ATTENTION:  HJR 1001 Article V Amendment Convention (Con-Con) legislation will be brought up again in the House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 10:00 am in Room 151.

The reasons for killing SJR 2 are the same for HJR 1001. So, what can YOU do? Simple!

ACTION:  Copy and paste the greeting and these bulleted points (shown directly below) into the body of your email to send to the House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs. (Their email addresses are hyperlinked and all together in a group below.) Just be sure to type your name and the county in which you live at the end of your email to them. You can send ONE email to all of them.

Dear Distinguished Member of the House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs:

  • I want you to pull your support from HJR 1001 and any other Article V Amendments Convention legislation, AND when these resolutions come to your committee, VOTE NO.

  • There is nothing in the information that you have received from either the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) or the Convention of States (COS) organization pointing to the source authority for the statements those organizations are making about an Article V Amendments Convention.

  • Both the Left and the Right are calling for an Article V Amendments Convention.

  • The ONLY THING that State Legislators can do under an Article V Amendments Convention is APPLY TO CONGRESS for a convention. After that, the U.S. Congress calls all the shots. There are NO LIMITS on a Constitutional Convention’s purpose, procedure, agenda, election of delegates, OR the subject matter!  (See Article I, §8, clause 17 of the U.S. Constitution.) If you don’t believe this is true, please provide the supporting documents to defend your position.

Send the greeting and bulleted list (above) to the House Committee Members listed below. Copy and paste these email addresses (shown directly below) into your “TO” in your email to the Committee members.  Be sure to type your name and the county in which you live at the end of your email to them. You can send ONE email to all of them.
